Mark Roher, who has worked as a commercial litigation and bankruptcy lawyer, was a guest at a wedding party on January 18. During the ongoing party, Roher, like everyone else, maintained a queue for the buffet prime rib carving station.
Witnesses say that two girls had tried to play smart by jumping the lines and the lawyer did not find it funny. The 52-year-old legal practitioner complained to one of the girls’ dads named Syed Raza, but it all fell on deaf ears.
Miami New Times reported that Roher proceeded to smash a plate on Raza’s head. Consequently, this invited a scuffle among the wedding guests. Police who arrived on the scene also noted that Raza sustained a minor bump on his head.
Despite leading Roher away in handcuffs, the lawyer protested his arrest. Instead, he informed the officers that he was the victim. The lawyer insisted on pressing charges against the alleged victim.
According to him, a handful of individuals beat him up including Raza who kept on kicking him. The alleged assailant added that he had been bruised all over his body.
Amid the assertions of the lawyer, he claimed that he never hit the victim with a plate, however, stating that he was the initiator of the chaos. Roher has now been charged with aggravated battery with a deadly weapon— the broken plate.
If found guilty he could lose his license to practice and would spend up to five years behind bars. As for now, Roher and his wife have lost their country club membership for a year.
