According to WJXT, Jacksonville authorities arrested 20-year-old Zayla Goodwin and her boyfriend, 23-year-old Nathaniel Davis, following an extensive investigation. Goodwin has been charged with aggravated manslaughter of a child, while Davis faces multiple charges, including first-degree murder, aggravated child abuse, sexual battery, and evidence tampering.
The case unfolded on September 10, 2024, when emergency responders were called to a home on Taurus Circle North in Jacksonville. The child, reportedly in cardiac arrest, was transported to Wolfson Children’s Hospital, where doctors identified severe injuries. Despite medical efforts, the toddler died on September 18. A subsequent autopsy confirmed blunt force trauma as the cause of death and revealed the presence of methamphetamine in the child’s system.
Authorities later conducted searches of the home, uncovering disturbing evidence. Investigators found blood-stained blankets, diapers, and bandages, along with drug paraphernalia and multiple cell phones. These findings contributed to the decision to indict Nathaniel Davis for first-degree murder.
Following months of investigation, the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office confirmed the arrests on March 20, 2025. Officials have pledged to work closely with the State Attorney’s Office to secure the maximum punishment for those responsible.
As the investigation continues, authorities have not released additional details. However, they have emphasized their commitment to seeking justice for the young victim, calling the crime “heinous” and vowing to protect the most vulnerable members of the community.
