A Florida woman led police on a 30-mile chase in 2022, that ended with the death of her 5-year-old daughter.
On Wednesday, Pamela Cabrera pled guilty to aggravated manslaughter after her car plunged into a pond, and killed her 5-year-old daughter Vanity, News Jax4 reports. Cabrera was also charged with fleeing from police.
In addition, Vanity’s dad is suing several agencies for negligence on behalf of her estate, citing:
“EYA (Eckerd Youth Alternatives) should have known that the placement of Vanity with her mother, Mrs. Baez, created a foreseeable zone of risk to Vanity as opposed to placement in an anonymous youth foster home.”
The other agencies being sued include:
- Lifestream Behavioral Center
- The LJD Jewish Family & Community Services
- Family Support Services
The family also contends that while in the custody of LBC (Lifestream Behavioral Center), “Ms. Cabrera told Mr. Tirado that she was taking Vanity and they were all going to die.”
Cabrera allegedly abducted her daughter from her aunt in Jacksonville and went on an 80-mile chase down I-95.
“Coming in at 80 miles an hour, into zone three, she’s running, [it’s] dark it’s hard to see her,” said a deputy from the footage, according to reports.
Cabrera’s car crashed into a retention pond and Vanity did not survive. The mother also reportedly has mental health issues.
