Police in Syracuse are searching for a former airport car rental worker accused of stealing nearly 50 vehicles worth more than $1 million from the Avis Budget lot at Syracuse Hancock International Airport, per the NY Post.

Authorities identified the suspect as 31-year-old Milton Thompson III. According to the Syracuse Regional Airport Authority Police Department, Thompson allegedly took 47 vehicles between June and August while working at the rental company.

Thompson is wanted on charges of grand larceny and scheme to defraud, The Post Standard reported. Investigators believe he ran a network that rented out the stolen cars at other locations throughout Onondaga County.

The thefts came to light earlier this year when Avis Budget reported dozens of missing vehicles.

Police said 42 of the 47 vehicles have since been recovered, but Thompson and the remaining cars are still missing. Authorities have not released details about how the vehicles were taken or how long the operation went unnoticed. Several others have already been arrested and charged in connection to the case, officials said.

Thompson, who remains at large, is described as a 31-year-old Black male and a former employee of Avis Budget at the airport.
