Javarrea Pouncy, a 31-year-old former sergeant with the DeSoto Parish Sheriff’s Office, was sentenced on Tuesday to 37 months in federal prison for violating the civil rights of detainee Jarius Brown, who suffered a brutal beating in the jailhouse laundry room.

Brown sustained severe injuries, including a fractured eye socket, after deputies, led by Pouncy, assaulted him during an aggressive search, Law & Crime reports.

The incident occurred when Brown was taken to the laundry room for what officials described as a routine strip search.

According to testimony during the trial, Pouncy ordered Brown to “strip naked, bend over, and cough” as part of the search procedure. When Brown hesitated, deputies responded with extreme force. Pouncy and other deputies allegedly struck him repeatedly, fracturing his eye socket and causing additional injuries to his ribs and face.

“This wasn’t just an assault; it was an abuse of power,” said U.S. Attorney Brandon Brown. “Jarius Brown was defenseless, subjected to a humiliating and brutal beating by the very officers sworn to protect him. This kind of violence has no place in law enforcement.”

The U.S. Department of Justice, which prosecuted the case, presented evidence showing that Pouncy and several deputies used excessive force without provocation. Brown, handcuffed and unable to defend himself, was left bleeding and unconscious on the laundry room floor, requiring immediate medical attention.

Brown, who testified during the trial, recounted the horrific moment, stating, “I was terrified. They just kept hitting me, and I couldn’t fight back. I could feel my face swelling up, but they wouldn’t stop. I thought I was going to die right there in that room.”

#Clique, and folks have the nerve to want you-know-who to give cops unchecked power.
