A former U.S. Postal Service employee, Hachikosela Muchimba, was convicted for orchestrating a scheme that defrauded the government and private individuals of over $1.6 million. According to federal prosecutors, his actions funded an extravagant lifestyle filled with international travel, luxury accommodations, and visits to gentlemen’s clubs.

Per Fox News, Muchimba, 44, worked for the U.S. Postal Service between December 2020 and March 2023. During this time, he stole U.S. Treasury and private checks from the mail. He also altered and falsely endorsed them before depositing the funds into his bank accounts.

Surveillance footage from banks captured him making these fraudulent transactions. His crimes extended beyond financial fraud. While applying for U.S. citizenship, Muchimba misled immigration officials by falsely claiming he had not committed any unreported crimes.

This deception added unlawful procurement of naturalization to the list of charges against him. Authorities arrested Muchimba in September 2023 as he attempted to flee to Zambia. After a federal trial, he was found guilty of multiple charges, including mail theft, bank fraud, and engaging in illegal financial transactions.

Hachikosela Muchimba’s sentencing is scheduled for August 8, where he could face up to 30 years for bank fraud, five years for mail theft, and 10 years for fraudulent naturalization, along with the possibility of having his citizenship revoked.
