Pasadena Memorial High School organized a school band competition on Saturday evening. This event hosted parents and students from different schools, some of whom traveled to the area.
But what started as a glorious event with kids showing off their talents, ended with an elderly man threatening the entire school. 83-year-old Dennis Erwin Brandl Jr. had raced into the school with a small caliber firearm.
According to the intruder, he was scared for his life and was running away from people who had tried to kill him and his wife. While the shooter thought that the school was a safe space, he didn’t think to secure the weapon.
The Pasadena Police Department claimed that Brandl’s weapon injured a young man who was on the scene. Thankfully, there was a team of four dads who sprung into action. According to KHOU 11, the four of them had been busy helping a band move their equipment.
But upon hearing the ruckus, the men immediately disarmed the shooter, before putting him down. These men have been certified as Army, Marine Corps, Air Force, and police veterans. The men waited for the police to arrive before getting off the shooter.
The group consists of Abram Trevino, a 13-year Air Force veteran, Adam Curow, a 14-year Army veteran, Efrain “Polo” Castillo, a 4-year Marine Corps veteran, and long-time Houston police sergeant Joe Sanchez.
Following his arrest, the police charged him with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon in a shooting. They maintained that Brandl was not a resident of the area. Instead, he had come from Spring in Texas. For now, the Pasadena Memorial High School shooter is currently in jail with no bail set.
