An Atlanta man had a medical emergency and died after confronting a suspected burglar trying to break into his car, according to PEOPLE. Tasha Brown told Fox 5 Atlanta that her husband, Javon Brown, had a heart attack during the confrontation.
The Atlanta Police Department stated that they responded to the incident, which happened on January 17 at 4:35 a.m. When they arrived, they found the victim dead in his doorway, with no visible injuries.
“Preliminary Investigation indicates unknown suspects were attempting to break into the victim’s vehicle,”
police said.
“The victim confronted the suspects. The armed suspect(s) discharged a firearm towards the victim; however, the victim was not struck by gunfire.”
Police said it seemed that Brown died after the incident caused a medical emergency. Tasha Brown remembered her husband’s car alarm going off around 4:30. She heard some noise and looked out the window to see someone trying to break into his truck. Tasha said Javon took his gun and went outside to scare off the suspected burglars.
Neighbors also told the outlet that several shots were fired. Tasha said her husband was not hit by any bullets, and the suspects ran away.
“He was able to speak,”
she told Fox 5.
“He was not hit. But then he went into cardiac arrest over the shock. He dropped down. I did CPR. I called 911 until I couldn’t feel my arms and hands, but it wasn’t enough.”
Police have not confirmed whether they have identified the suspects yet.
