Gilbert Arenas’ Son Involved In Ghastly Car Crash
Gilbert Arenas’ son, Alijah Arenas, was involved in a serious Cybertruck accident early Thursday morning. ESPN NBA’s Shams Charania posted about the accident on X, formerly Twitter, writing, “Five-star prospect and USC commit Alijah Arenas was involved in a serious car crash early Thursday morning.” He added that Alijah was “hospitalized and placed into an induced coma. Arenas, 18, is the son of former NBA star Gilbert Arenas.”
High school hoops insider Tarek Fattal also confirmed the same on the platform. Fattal revealed that Gibert Arenas’ son didn’t suffer any broken bones. He divulged that Alijah was placed in a coma because of smoke inhalation, which is standard protocol for such cases. Per TMZ, Alijah suffered serious injuries from the accident. The cause of the crash is currently unknown, but the pictures show a mangled Cybertruck. The completely damaged vehicle hit a tree on the side of the road in a Los Angeles neighborhood.
Alijah’s Mom Asks For Prayers
The mother of Gilbert Arenas’ son, Laura Govan, shared on Instagram that she needed prayers for her boy. She told her 1.5 million followers after the news went viral, “I NEED YOUR F**KEN PRAYERS,” and added multiple praying hands emojis. Alijah’s accident occurred around 4:55 am. Firefighters arrived at the scene shortly afterward.
They came in response to a call for help to rescue a victim trapped inside a vehicle. Emergency crews followed shortly after. However, everyone inside the Cybertruck had reportedly exited before they arrived. Sources also reported that the front of the car was on fire.
Gilbert Arenas’ Son Was On Track To Become An NBA Star
Gilbert Arenas’ son wanted to follow in his father’s footsteps and has already made a name for himself. He committed to USC in January and is considered the No. 1 shooting guard in the nation. He has also been ranked as the No. 4 overall prospect in the class of 2026. Gilbert Arenas’ son is a five-star prospect and top-five recruit. According to a December 2024 ESPN report, he recently reclassified to the 2025 class. He was also selected for the 2025 McDonald’s All-American Game.
Gilbert Arenas said of his son at the time, “We’re reclassing up right now. I think they just approved it today. This is his senior year now.” Alijah became one of the five best available recruits in the country after completing the reclassification.
