On Thursday, a man wearing a Halloween mask attacked a cook at a Long Island mental health facility while the worker sat in his car. The incident occurred around 4:10 p.m. in the parking lot of Hands Across Long Island, where the attacker waited before striking, according to the New York Post.

The unnamed masked attacker quietly walked up to the victim’s car and tapped on the window, causing the man to partially open his door. At that moment, the assailant suddenly lunged into the car, slashing the man from his shoulder to his chest, as shown in the footage.

The attacker quickly fled down the street after the assault. Reports say the suspect had not been apprehended yet. Meanwhile, the victim was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening wounds, according to police.

A worker from a closeby business, who chose to remain unidentified, shared that officials told him the victim was a cook at the facility.

CEO of Hands Across Long Island Inc, Melissa Wettengel, said,

“As police investigate what appears to be a random act, we are focused on the safety and well-being of our staff member.”
