What was supposed to be the happiest day of Tyrek Burton’s life ended in an unimaginable nightmare.
The 37-year-old father of four was fatally shot at his wedding reception. Burton, who had just married the love of his life, was celebrating with family and friends when someone uninvited came to the event and shot him in front of his loved ones, WLBT reports.
According to the Columbus PD, the shooting occurred late Saturday night of October 12th, on the south side of the city, where Burton’s wedding reception was being held. Authorities say the suspect, who was not a guest at the wedding, arrived at the venue and opened fire, striking Burton.
“Supposed to be one of the happiest moments of his life, and it turned into something tragic,” said Tyrek Burton’s sister, Brittany Burton.
Police responded to the scene around 11:30 p.m., where they found Burton with multiple gunshot wounds. He was transported to a nearby hospital but was pronounced dead shortly after arriving.
Burton, a devoted father of four children ranging in age from 5 to 16. His new wife, whose identity has not been released, was unharmed but is devastated by the loss.
“This was supposed to be the beginning of the rest of their lives,” said Darnell Foster, Burton’s cousin. “We were celebrating their love, and now we’re planning a funeral. It’s just heartbreaking.”
