A gynecologist in Los Angeles gave up his medical license after reportedly pressuring a 63-year-old patient about Jesus and suggesting Bible study when she mentioned having an abortion 34 years ago. The patient visited Dr. Lucien Cox for a routine exam back in September 2021, where she disclosed her past abortion during initial questions, according to the Independent.
When Dr. Cox, 75, entered the room, he questioned the woman about her abortion and asked if she knew Jesus. After she said she wasn’t religious, he talked about heaven and the devil taking over the world. He then allegedly spent 15 minutes preaching and invited her to his Bible study class for women who feel guilty after getting abortions.
Cox who is now banned from practicing, then called his assistant and conducted a pelvic exam and Pap smear. The woman complained to regulators, which resulted in the discovery of another incident in 2014 where Cox attempted an inappropriate examination on a different patient. The previous woman reported him to officials; however, no charges were filed at the time.
Cox, practicing since 1979, was cited for unprofessional conduct and negligence, leading to his license being revoked on Nov. 5. His attorney claims he didn’t discuss Christianity or the devil noting that he just invited her to a
“Bible study program she might find helpful.”
“As always, a chaperone was present during the exam, which proceeded uneventfully,”
said Peter Osinoff, the former doctor’s lawyer.
Cox denied allegations made by previous patient. Osinoff stated that Cox has given excellent care to thousands of patients in the Los Angeles area.
"When the woman told Cox she was not religious Cox asked if she wanted to “go to heaven and avoid the devil,” telling her that “the devil is ruling the world.” He spent the next 15 minutes proselytizing before inviting her to attend his Bible study."https://t.co/F0LueULhLO
