Sandra Fitts, 79, was the woman who lost her life after an Amazon driver, London Best, killed her. The delivery man had struck her down with his truck. But rather than stop, he escaped by continuing his journey.

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution was one of the first to report on Fitts’ death. On the day the 79-year-old was killed, she had just visited the graveside of a loved one. However, the vehicle hit her as she walked down to cross the streets around 6 p.m. on Cumming Highway close to Jordan Lane.

An eyewitness alerted the police about the accident and they arrived at the scene in no time and speculated about what had happened. According to People, long after Fitts was hit, an officer noticed an Amazon driver, Best. However, the deputy only saw the truck make a turn around Bishop Drive. Reports say that the truck had a dent consistent with what was on the accident scene.

A statement obtained from the Sheriff’s Office said all evidence pointed to the truck. On the same day, police arrested the Amazon driver and he was charged with killing Fitts. Following the arrest, he received a first-degree vehicular homicide charge. On top of that, authorities say he is guilty of a hit and run resulting in death.

A spokesperson for Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office said Best’s escape changed the dynamics of the case. If he had not hurried away from the scene, he likely wouldn’t have been slammed with felonies.

Apart from the hit-and-run charges, the police say he is faced with more. This was because they had discovered narcotics inside his vehicle. His charges now include possession of drug-related objects and possession of marijuana.
