According to the cops, the dating app was a means of enticement these Illinois teens decided to hop on. But it was all inspired by a cryptic viral trend. Via statement, the Mount Prospect Police Department refused to mention the particular app, still, they recounted the victims’ story.
Per the NY Post, one of the men who fell into the teenagers’ trap was a 41-year-old. He believed he had connected to someone special via the dating app and so, the victim honored a night date. However, as he arrived at the parking area of Northwest Highway in Mount Prospect, the teenagers were waiting already.
At around 9:45 on July 6, the teenagers trapped him in the parking lot while they harassed and assaulted him verbally and physically. While nothing was reported stolen, the destructive teens damaged his car.
Not long after, these teenagers in Illinois lured another man to a location that was only a few miles away from where the first victim was harassed via dating apps. Unfortunately, upon his arrival, the 23-year-old victim suffered a similar fate.
The police confirmed that during these attacks, one of the teenagers used racial slurs. This particular teen has been slapped with an additional two hate crimes charges. Like the others, his charges include aggravated battery, criminal damage to property, and mob action. The offenders—all males—surrendered to the authorities. Last month, they were all booked into Chicago’s Cook County Juvenile Detention Center.
