A 27-year-old man who entered an Orlando hotel to rob posing as a fake cop has been apprehended. The impersonator tricked an unsuspecting woman just to gain entry into her room. Reports from the Orlando Police Department say the imposter and robber selected a destination site for relaxation. His selection, a hotel in Orlando is cited in a busy area known for its vacation resorts. The suspect then headed to a woman’s room where he intimidated her with his badge and gun.

Posing as Police: Man Forces Into Orlando Hotel Room, Robs Woman

According to the victim, the man forced his way into her hotel room on August 23. Indeed, the surveillance footage showed the man now identified as Michael Darren Jesse Rodriguez. The 27-year-old was spotted in a casual black shirt and chinos pants. He had the gold and blue embellished cop badge hanging on his neck.

Following his entry into the room, he cuffed the victim’s wrist and stole her wallet. Fortunately, there was no harm done to the witness. Authorities say that this is usual behavior— daylight robbery under pretense.

Before the Orlando hotel robbery, the fake cop performed a similar stunt in Miami Springs. As expected, he opted for an Inn in Lantana, Florida. Per Fox News, more than a month after the crimes, the police finally arrested him. They obtained a warrant and the suspect was taken into custody on October 2 to be extradited to Orange County.

Back in September, during a trip to Georgia, Orlando Police spotted his vehicle on the road as he drove. This was the same car he used during the two robberies. Once the real cops got a hold of the car, they searched it thoroughly only to discover a handful of evidence. The police took the fake police badge, handcuffs, and firearms.

Expectedly, Rodriguez is charged with a host of crimes. It includes falsely impersonating an officer to commit a crime with a weapon, robbery while armed, and false imprisonment with a weapon.
