In Indonesia, a woman who had been reported missing was tragically found to have been devoured by a large python, per The Post. The incident took place in Kalempang village, South Sulawesi province, reports CBS News.
Farida, a 45-year-old woman and mother of four, went missing on Thursday night. Her husband and local residents discovered her body inside a reticulated python on Friday. The search for Farida began when she did not return home that night, as reported by village chief Suardi Rosi.
Her husband
“found her belongings… which made him suspicious. The villagers then searched the area. They soon spotted a python with a large belly,”
Suardi said.
“They agreed to cut open the python’s stomach. As soon as they did, Farida’s head was immediately visible.”
The woman was discovered fully clothed inside the large snake. The snake was reported to be at least 16 feet long. Noni, the woman’s husband, expressed regret for allowing his wife to go out alone.
“If I had been with her that day, the snake would not have dared to touch her,”
he said, according to ViralPress.
“I feel sorry for the suffering she went through. I am sorry for our family,”
he said.
These kinds of incidents are uncommon, but they have happened before in Indonesia. Just last year, in the Tinanggea district of Southeast Sulawesi, residents killed a massive python that measured 26 feet long. The snake was found strangling and devouring a local farmer. This type of python, known as a reticulated python, is the longest snake in the world and is native to Indonesia, the Philippines, India, and Borneo. The largest reticulated python ever recorded was 32 feet long and weighed an astonishing 350 pounds, as reported by Reptiles Magazine.
