JaNa Craig emerged as the third most desired housemate at the recently concluded Love Island USA season 6. Yet, the chocolate beauty has gone on to speak her truth about a tactical bias against black women on dating shows. Love Island USA season 6 brought nothing but untapped entertainment to the table. It showcased a slow-burn romance among the winners of the show. Other contestants also displayed realistic emotions toward friendship, sisterhood, and romance.
JaNa Craig On Reality TV Dating Involving Black Women
JaNa Craig paired brilliantly with Kenny Rodriguez. But their happy-ever-after was not built on roses. Serena Page and Kordell Beckham experienced a connection at first, then a breakup and a reunion. It was almost as if things between these two had ended. But they brought back the slow-burn romance on screen.
This involved their slow pace in knowing each other and eventually their decision to stick together. Before Page’s peculiar romance sealed off, she and Craig were in a dilemma. Both women believed that black women were less desirable on the show. The onscreen star who came third with her beau, Rodriguez, basked in the support of the black community.
They edged her on as the chocolate girl and that fueled her drive to continue. Allegedly, throughout the Hawaiin native’s stay in the villa, it was as if dark-skinned females were the bottom barrel. Non-blacks were often selected and found their matches sooner. According to Craig, she approached Page and confessed her fears. However, the women decided to shine regardless.
“Me and Serena literally had a heart-to-heart…she’s like ‘I just don’t think it’s fair that the black girls don’t get enough fair chances.’ Every islander that came in, we were not their top pick. And we just [thought] maybe because we’re black girls, and the dark-skinned black girls. It sucked,” she quipped.
Yet, they focused on their great personalities and accepted nothing less. This did not change the fact that the beautiful black women noticed the disparities. The 27-year-old confessed that along the line, the reality TV show introduced more light-skinned women. However, they surprisingly received love from the Casa Amor recruit.
JaNa Craig And Serena Page Breaks The Curse
Serena Page was voted in for first place alongside Beckham. Meanwhile, her soul sister, JaNa Craig came third. Yet Craig declares herself as a winner too. Following her take on the possible prejudice, she maintained that the dating show was authentic. Citing her and Page’s romance, she considered it a victory for the black community. SP emerged the winner irrespective of her skin tone and slow-burn romance is not common in today’s world. Meanwhile, Craig feels blessed that Rodriguez’s skin tone complements her melanin skin.
Final Note
Together, the two young black women on the top winners’ list have somehow inspired their communities. Rather than whine about the perceived prejudice, they waxed stronger only to leave a long-lasting impression.
