The Bartow Police Department got a call from the Voigts’ residence on Saturday. The apartment was home to husband and wife, Susan and Marvin Voigt, and their 23-year-old son, Joseph who was addicted to video games.

According to Fox News, gunshot sounds went off around 11:20 pm as Marvin whined about his son’s lack of motivation and addiction to video games. The concerned father wanted his child to get a job and ditch the complacent attitude.

Instead, Joseph got angry and shot at his parents. The gunshot injuries sustained by Marvin ended his life. But luckily for Susan, she was able to reach the authorities. Upon their arrival, the police found the bleeding woman on the couch, with wounds on her head.

She was immediately rushed to the hospital, where she is currently under observation. Police chief Steven Walker alleged that the couple had a good report from neighbors.

Following the shooting, Joseph Voigt fled the scene, but the police were on the lookout for the car he was driving. The Polk County Sheriff’s Office revealed that the shooter was arrested on Sunday around 2. am.

After being led off in cuffs, the shooter confessed to his crimes. On Monday, Joseph Voigt appeared in Orange County Court. But his case will be heard and judged in Polk County. The charges against him will include murder and attempted murder of his parents.
