A judge has agreed to a new bond hearing for Lil Durk over his murder-for-hire charge. His family is fighting against his indictment and has claimed that prosecutors procured false evidence against him. His attorneys have argued against the evidence presented against him. They also plan to have the charges dismissed or, at the very least, secure his release on bail. The rapper has been accused of placing a bounty on a rival, Quando Rondo.
Lil Durk’s New Bond Hearing Has Been Scheduled
Lil Durk has a new bond hearing scheduled for May 8 in Los Angeles. A judge agreed to listen to the rapper’s attorney’s request after a new offer. Lil Durk’s lawyers are arguing that he is not a flight risk and are calling for his release on bond. They are presenting a new bail package worth over $2 million. This includes $1 million in cash, $900,000 in real estate, and $150,000 from a friend. They also offer 24/7 armed security and electronic monitoring to argue that he is not a flight risk.
Per Complex, Lil Durk’s attorneys are pushing for the murder-for-hire case to be thrown out or for bond. They argued that the prosecution used “unfair” and “misleading” evidence to secure an indictment for their client. The evidence consists of a video that prosecutors claimed existed during a hearing in January that matched Durk’s lyrics with a murder.
“The bottom line is there was a video that was filmed showing defendant’s rival screaming, ‘No. No,’ that was placed over these lyrics,” they said, referring to a version of the track Wonderful Wayne and Jackie Boy, featuring Durk and Babyface Ray.
However, in their request for his bond, Lil Durk’s lawyers claimed that fan pages, not Durk, compiled and posted them. They also accused the government of mishandling and misattributing evidence. Lil Durk has also long denied the claims in a previous statement. He declared that he wrote the lyrics months before Robinson’s death, making it impossible for them to refer to the incident.
Prosecutors Present New Evidence Against Lil Durk
Durk is implicated in the murder of Saviay’a Robinson, a relative of Quando Rondo, with whom Durk has a feud. In the motions filed on April 18, prosecutors argued that Durk tried to profit off Robinson’s murder, using Wonderful Wayne and Jackie Boy as evidence. They have also presented new evidence to support their claims and prevent Lil Durk from being granted a bond.
Prosecutors shared an unreleased Lil Durk track titled Scoom His A**, which they claim to have gotten from a co-defendant’s phone. According to Complex, the April 28 documents claim that the song supports the rapper’s alleged murderous intent. They insisted the evidence was genuine and warned against granting Lil Durk bond, saying he was still a flight risk or potential danger.
Authorities arrested Lil Durk in October 2024 while he was attempting to flee to Italy. A grand jury indicted him for murder-for-hire charges in the 2022 killing of Saviay’a Robinson. Prosecutors allege that Quando Rondo was the intended target, but his cousin, Robinson, got hit instead. They claim the shooting was in retaliation for the murder of Durk’s associate, King Von, by someone connected to Rondo. They also allege that Durk paid the bounty through his OTF label to avoid detection.
Lil Durk Shares Update
Lil Durk also shared an update about his situation a day before the bond application. “I’ve been good, man. Mentally, spiritually, I’m on top of my sh*t,” he told DJ Akademiks. “I’ll be back out there, you hear me? Thank you—I need all the prayers. I appreciate you.” He added, “Ain’t nothing changed, bro. I’ve just been focused on life, my family. I’m trying to learn Arabic in here. A couple guys know it fluently, so I’ve been picking up words, just tightening up my Arabic. Just building knowledge.”
Lil Durk’s family is also seeking the public’s help. They released a statement on Tuesday accusing the government of presenting “false evidence to a grand jury to indict him.” The family continued, saying, “That isn’t justice. That’s a violation of the very system that’s supposed to protect all of us. Durk has always used music to tell stories, to express pain, to heal — and yet those same lyrics are now being used against him.”
They added, “We refuse to stay silent as Black artists continue to be criminalized for their creativity. Rap is art.” They then pleaded with the public to support them and speak against Durk’s incarceration.
It’s good to know that the rapper is doing well in jail. However, it remains to be seen if the judge will grant Lil Durk’s bond request in a few days.
