Kanye West, popularly known as Ye, claims he has been newly diagnosed with autism. The Yeezy founder revealed this in an interview this week where he spoke about his personality. Ye explained that he had another test done at the prompting of his wife, Bianca Censori. Speaking about the change, the musician said he is on the lookout for drugs that won’t hamper his creativity.
Kanye West Has Autism
The rapper shared with fans this week that he has autism on Justin LaBoy’s The Download podcast. He was diagnosed with bipolar disorder in 2016 after he landed in the hospital following a psychiatric emergency that resulted in “temporary psychosis.” Ye told LaBoy his wife Bianca Censori asked him to get a new test because he didn’t act like he had bipolar disorder.
“My wife took me because she said, ‘Something about your personality doesn’t feel like it’s bipolar, I’ve seen bipolar before,'” he said.
Kanye West told his host that he was diagnosed with ASD (autism spectrum disorder) instead after visiting the doctor. According to the National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH), people with autism have a wide range of symptoms, which can include differences in social and communication behaviors, intellectual disabilities, and other physical and mental health conditions. People with autism also have a wide range of health care and service needs.
Kanye West’s Autism Diagnosis Helps Him Understand Himself Better
Since getting an autism diagnosis, Kanye West says he now understands better why he acts in certain ways. He linked this to his support of Donald Trump during his electoral bids. He said:
“Autism takes you to a Rain Man thing where you’re like, ‘Oh man, I’m gonna wear this [Donald] Trump hat ’cause I just like Trump in general.”
Ye further disclosed that he now knows why he acts defiantly to others’ opinions.
“When people tell you to not do it, you just get on that one point,” he said.
He added:
“That’s my problem, when fans tell me to do my album a certain way, I’ll do it the opposite way, just because.”
Ye also talked about how being controlled made him worse.
“This is like a grown man… You can’t take control of his bank account. You can’t control what I’m saying on Twitter. But a lot of what was sending me into the episodes… my dad and a bunch people said, ‘You can’t leave Adidas why would you leave all that money? The constant feeling of not being in control, spun me out of control,” he shared.
Kanye West Focused On Rebuilding His Brand
Besides his autism diagnosis, Kanye West also talked about rebuilding his fortune after the 2022/2023 provocative incidents. The rapper had made a series of anti-semitic tweets that threatened to incite hatred and harm. He also expressed adoration for Adolf Hitler, who masterminded the death of millions of Jews. Additionally, he made a controversial statement at the Paris Fashion Week with the “White Lives Matter” slogan on shirts to antagonize the Black Lives Matter movement.
As a result of his actions, West nearly went bankrupt after losing deals and partnerships with brands like Gap, Balenciaga, and Adidas, although the loss hit hard on both sides with the latter. Ye’s social media accounts were also suspended or banned. However, the entrepreneur is back to work after the drama that ensued following his public downward spiral. He remains controversial, though, as he created a great stir during the Grammys on Sunday after his wife pulled off her coat to reveal a dress that exposed her nudity.
Meanwhile, Kanye West is looking for medication that won’t impede his creativity after his autism diagnosis. Hopefully, he will get what he needs, and it will prove helpful to him.
