Karla Espinal who has since been held behind bars for murdering her daughter maintains that there was a reason behind her actions. Although she’s yet to be sentenced, the prosecutors may add more charges once the victim’s cause of death is ascertained.
Allegedly, Espinal snuffed out the life of her 6-year-old daughter, #MadalynTavarez, inside her home in #HighwayParkBrooklyn. The tipster was a relative of Tavarez who told the police that the minor had been submerged under water.
When the police arrived on the scene, they discovered Tavarez inside a bathtub full of water, with blood clots in her eyes. Per the NY Post, such a sight could only mean that the minor struggled to stay alive.
Prosecutors claim that the mother might have forcefully kept her inside the water. Following the rescue, the police rushed the child to Brookdale University Medical Center, where she was declared dead.
In court on Sunday, the prosecutors explained that Karla Espinal confirmed that her child was in the water. However, her excuse was that she was baptizing the minor. Sources say that the negligent mom kept the child inside the water for as long as 20 minutes.
Meanwhile, Jorge Tavarez, father of the deceased revealed that his child was hale and hearty about an hour before the tragedy. The suspect is now being charged with second-degree assault, reckless endangerment, and endangering the welfare of a child.
