KJ Smith’s Wouldn’t Have Married Husband At Certain Income Level

KJ Smith claims she wouldn’t have married her husband, Skyh Alvester Black when he was still earning $13 an hour. She disclosed this during a panel session for the Dear Future Wifey podcast. When host Laterras R. Whitfield asked if she would have “given [Black] a chance if he was parking cars,” the Sistas co-star replied pointedly, “No!” KJ explained her reasons when Whitfield asked why, noting that it was more a matter of maturity and circumstances.

She said, “Him meeting me when he was parking cars would be like me meeting someone when I was doing background. I was not mentally mature, I was super immature, I was tired all the time.” She added, “I didn’t have the mental capacity to have a normal conversation without thinking about my survival, so even when I meet you, I’m thinking about my survival. What do you do? Where are you from? How much money you got? It wasn’t organic or authentic because I wasn’t in the space.”

KJ Smith added that she also wanted a provider and a companion who would build her up. She said she was already “down” and didn’t “want to go no lower.” She noted that Black was a handsome man, and she was tempted to date him. However, her struggle to get to the top kept her firm. “I worked really hard to be where I was, and I knew that one bad decision could just take it away from me,” the Family Business actress revealed.

KJ Smith’s Husband Wouldn’t Have Asked Her Out At 13/Hr Income Level

KJ Smith and Black seem to be on the same page, as he had earlier echoed his wife’s talking point. Black claimed that timing was more important than the person in finding the right person. He claimed he would never have dated KJ Smith, a leading actress when he was still a valet. Black argued that he wasn’t in the right place at the time.

“It’s not about the money; it’s about my confidence and overall actual emotional maturity and vulnerability to be able to feel good enough about myself to fill my cup up first before I can pour into her,” he told the audience. The actor added, “I’m not going to come to you when I’m standing there and I’m making $13 an hour because right now at this point, my mindset is not right for where your life is right now.”
