Lamar Odom has stated that he was not responsible for his drug overdose. He reminisced on the experience during an interview and shared the little details he could piece together from it. Odom claimed that he had no drugs on him in the brothel where he was found, and someone else had drugged him, causing him to go into a coma.
Lamar Odom Does Not Remember Drug OverdoseDetail
Lamar Odom was recently on The Kyle & Jackie O Show when he discussed his 2015 drug overdose.
“When I woke up, I couldn’t walk or talk,” he told his hosts on the January 20 episode.
The former NBA star admitted that his recollections of the incident were fuzzy because of what followed his overdose.
“I do remember, but I don’t really remember because I was in a coma,” he noted.
Lamar Odom also revealed that his drug overdose happened after he struggled to overcome his addiction.
A drink in the Las Vegas brothel he had checked into sent him into a coma and to the hospital. The professional basketball player also narrated the events that led to the incident.
“I remember being upset that I didn’t have any cocaine to take to the brothel. I had just signed the divorce papers and I thought I was just gonna go all the way in,” he said.
Odom and his ex-wife, Khloé Kardashian, had just called it quits in their marriage at the time.
Lamar Odom Denies Responsibility For Drug Overdose
Meanwhile, despite the foggy memories, Lamar Odom maintains he never took drugs that could have caused an overdose. He revealed that he loaded his credit card with an undisclosed amount of money and then had a drink only to wake up “three days later with it all over the news.” Odom said he learned, to his shock in the hospital, that he had drugs in his system even though he never took any drugs himself.
“I don’t know what they were able to slip into my drink or what,” the former LA Lakers star said.
He added:
“When I woke up, I couldn’t walk or talk. So it took you know, it took some months of rehabilitation and a lot of prayers, a lot of determination.”
Lamar Odom has been candid about how he got into drugs and sexual addiction. He told ABC News’ Juju Chang that everything began after he lost his mother to cancer when he was 12.
“You’re looking to…fill that void, you know, with things,” he said. “And, you know, some things I was trying to fill that void with were destructive.”
He also admitted he hid it from his ex.
Lamar Odom Wants to Help Others
Lamar Odom has learned his lesson from the drug overdose that nearly claimed his life. He once revealed that he suffered 12 strokes and six heart attacks while he was in the four-day coma. The doctors also claimed his survival and recovery was a miracle.
“Now my mission is probably to help people who have the same problem who couldn’t help themselves be able to understand addiction and understand that it’s a brain disease,” he said. “It’s important for people to really understand and educate themselves.”
When Jackie asked Lamar Odom if he thought his drug overdose was an avenue for growth, the NBA star replied affirmatively.
“You have nothing to do after you beat your death,” he responded. In his interview with Chang, while discussing his memoir, Darkness to Light, Odom stated that his story demonstrates his victory. “It’s really a story of triumph, and overcoming obstacles, and tragedy,” he said, adding, “Overcoming tragedy.”
Lamar Odom’s recent claims about his drug overdose have left many divided over the veracity of his claims. His story is definitely interesting, but his revelation is weighty, too. Hopefully, he has evidence in case he needs to back up his claims in court.
