Victorious star Leon Thomas recently opened up about supporting his family financially at some point in his career. The singer shared details of his childhood and blossoming career during a radio interview. He revealed that his mom never forced him to do any projects and was a strong support system.
Leon Thomas was Once His Family’s Breadwinner
In a radio interview, Leon Thomas revealed details about being his family’s breadwinner while he was younger and complimented his mother’s strength. When the radio host asked him if he was the breadwinner, he replied affirmatively but clarified it was for a while and only because his mom wanted to support him.
“For some time,” he replied. “I mean cuz she had to quit her job in order to even, like, things got real, man.”
“I mean, I did three Broadway plays in three years, and then I was doing movies with Robin Williams, TV shows on Nickelodeon, flying all over the country,” the 31-year-old artist shared. “It became tough for her to really sustain her own business, which was really successful in New York at the time,” he added.
Leon Thomas’ Mom Quit Her Business to Support Him
Leon Thomas also shared why it was easy for him to be the breadwinner. The songwriter disclosed that his mom never tried to take advantage of him. She always supported him when he was trying to find his feet and afterward. Thomas told his hosts he and his mom were close and made decisions together.
“Plotting together about like ‘So what do we do next?’ Being a team. It was so cool to have a team member that genuinely cared about me,” Leon said.
“She was never on some Joe Jackson like ‘You have to do this,’ you know,” he added.
The Grammy Award winner also revealed that his mom was conscious of his grades and demanded he excel in school if he wanted to do more projects.
“It was always like, ‘Well, if you still want to do it, you got to have good grades. And I think we should go with this network, or we should try this role, or let’s just kind of tap in,'” Thomas confessed.
Leon Thomas Tries to Repay His “Beautiful” Mom
The media personality revealed that he always tries his best to pay his mom’s efforts forward. He also lauded her “beautiful soul,” which ensured he got the “right direction.” The musician was grateful, expressing adoration and respect for his mom for “pouring into me in that way. Yeah, man, she did,” he said. Fans on Onsite’s Instagram page also thanked Thomas’ mom for supporting him, stating that it helped the singer get to where he is today.
Leon Thomas, who won a Grammy Award for his contribution to SZA’s song “Snooze,” has appeared in various movies and Broadway productions in addition to his music career. He started his career on Broadway in 2003 and moved to film in 2007. Thomas is widely renowned for his role as Andre in the hit Nickelodeon movie Victorious. He launched his music career officially with his mixtape Metro Hearts, released in 2012.
Leon Thomas’s taking on the role of his family’s breadwinner is admirable and is even more beautiful, considering they never tried to exploit him.
