According to Texas authorities, a man who had recently been released from jail after assaulting his ex-girlfriend went to her apartment and shot her new boyfriend multiple times. He had called her repeatedly, inquiring about her dating status, to which she denied and asked for space, per the Fort Worth Star-Telegram.

According to officials, the unnamed man showed up at the woman’s apartment around 1 a.m. on May 10, carrying a gun. He knocked on the door, and when the woman opened it, he forced his way inside and threatened her with the firearm. The woman’s boyfriend intervened, offering to leave, but the man aimed the gun at him.

Texas officials say the woman’s boyfriend was struck inside the apartment and attempted to flee from the attacker. He was pursued down the stairs and shot multiple times. Meanwhile, the woman took her children to a room, called 911, and waited for aid. The woman’s ex fled before the authorities arrived and is currently being sought. Fortunately, the victim is expected to make a full recovery.
