A man in New Jersey is accused of murder after his fiancée’s death. Reports added that her death came after he posted a video of him proposing to her. On Dec. 30, 2024, at about 9:12 a.m., Elizabeth Police went to a home on Florida Street after receiving a stabbing report.

“Upon their arrival, they located Naket Jadix Trinidad Maldonado, aged 31 of Elizabeth, who was found dead at the scene,”

said a news release by the Union County Prosecutor’s Office.

52-year-old Jose Melo has since been charged

“with one count of first-degree murder, one count of third-degree possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, and one count of fourth-degree unlawful possession of a weapon,”

the prosecutor’s office said.

According to Fox 5 New York, Melo and the victim were engaged. A video on Melo’s Facebook, apparently from December 29, showed him proposing in a bar.

The video captioned,

“I love you, baby,”

as he seemingly tagged the victim’s profile.

A GoFundMe page created by the victim’s aunt, Yolanda De, stated that she was taken from them senselessly in an

“act of evil.”
