Authorities have apprehended a man who was reportedly caught on camera violently robbing an 83-year-old woman, per ABC News. The incident took place not long after she picked up lottery winnings from a convenience store, according to police.
The robbery took place on Wednesday morning after 8 a.m..
It was outside a store on Curry Ford Road, near the junction of S. Goldenrod Road in Orlando, Florida, as stated by the Orange County Sheriff’s Office.
Authorities released surveillance footage of the brutal robbery on social media. The video shows an unnamed 83-year-old woman exiting the store with what appeared to be her recently collected lottery winnings. The suspect, identified as #DiegoStalinTavarezFleury, approaches the woman and tries to forcibly grab the winnings from her hand as she struggles to defend herself.
Another man who had been inside the convenience store is seen coming outside to intervene, positioning himself between the victim and Fleury. However, this causes Fleury to escalate his attack on the woman. Fleury stole her money while the good Samaritan attempts to pull him away. Ultimately, Fleury is seen dragging the woman from her car deeper into the parking lot before making off with her winnings.
The Orange County Sheriff’s Office provided an update on Facebook Thursday, announcing that Fleury had been arrested and booked into jail. The specifics of his charges were not immediately available.
