A 42-year-old Pennsylvania fessed up to a heinous crime that left his mother grotesque after he brutally beat her face in.

Erik Watkins pled guilty to one count of criminal homicide in the third degree for the December 2020 beating death of his 60-year-old mom, Patricia Watkins, Law & Crime reports.

On Tuesday, Watkins was handed a prison sentence of 15-40 years after first pleading not guilty and then changing his plea to guilty.

According to reports, Watkins and his stepbrother got into a scuffle. The stepbrother and Patricia locked themselves in a bathroom away from Erik. The stepbrother reportedly climbed through a window to get out and call for help. But when he returned the mother was found with fractured body parts bleeding out in the bathroom tub where she died.

During his sentencing, Erik offered this apology blaming his actions on drugs and mental health issues saying:

“I would like to start by saying I am sorry to my family,” Watkins said. “I’m extremely remorseful. No words can define how terrible I feel. I loved my mother. I love my family and I’m sorry. I’m so sorry. I was suffering from substance abuse disorder and mental health. I took what I thought to be Xanax and it sent me into a whirlwind, made me hallucinate, have delusions, things that I cannot describe. I have lost everything because of drugs. Words cannot describe how bad I feel.”
