A former California Highway Patrol captain, Dennis Woodbury, has been indicted for alleged sexual misconduct involving two male flight attendants aboard a JetBlue Airways flight.
Woodbury, 49, of Azusa, California, faces a felony charge of abusive sexual contact following an April 13 flight from Fort Lauderdale to Los Angeles, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Central District of California.
Authorities allege that Woodbury, reportedly intoxicated, slapped one flight attendant’s buttocks and exposed himself mid-flight. He is also accused of showing another JetBlue crew member a photo with pornographic content in the background and making inappropriate comments and gestures.
According to prosecutors, Woodbury exposed his genitalia on two separate occasions during the flight. After being denied alcohol, he allegedly repeated the act, prompting a crew member to order him back to his seat.
The flight attendants told investigators they did not consent to the behavior. JetBlue, in a statement shared with the New York Post and PEOPLE, emphasized its commitment to safety:
“We have zero tolerance for the behavior alleged and took immediate action by notifying law enforcement.”
Dennis Woodbury appeared in court in April and was released on a $50,000 bond. If convicted, he could face up to two years in federal prison. His arraignment is set for May 12 in U.S. District Court in Los Angeles. Assistant U.S. Attorney William M. Larsen is prosecuting the case.
