Devontae Gray, 30, has been labeled as the suspect who carried out the gruesome murder of Alexis Schuler, the woman he supposedly loved. Following police investigation, the suspect hid the deceased in a makeshift tomb in his home. He now faces an extended sentence as he is charged with first-degree murder and other charges relating to the death of his girlfriend.
A statement from the Prince George Police Department has highlighted Gray’s involvement in the bone-chilling crime. Schuler was first reported missing to the Metropolitan Police Department in D.C.— the department reached out to Prince George Police on January 18. This necessitated an investigation into Gray’s home as it was his girlfriend.
Once the police obtained a search warrant, a thorough search was conducted. The authorities reportedly noted a foul smell but blamed it on the dirty environment. However, during the search, they discovered the unimaginable which explained the stench.
Local police recovered Schuler’s remains including a foot trashed inside a bin. The police also recovered a semi-automatic handgun, construction tools, and cleaning materials. Using the construction tools, Gray had made a makeshift tomb where he stored his dead girlfriend.
With the wealth of evidence against him, the suspect later confessed to the murder. The deceased’s remains were sent to the Medical Examiner and it was discovered that Devontae Gray shot his victim before decapitating her body.
Court papers obtained by Fox 5 D.C confirmed that Gray planned how he would hide the body. Surveillance footage spotted him entering his apartment with construction tools and equipment on January 12 and 13. This was a few days before the local police were notified of a missing person.
