Mayor In Missouri Charged After Stealing Piece Of Machinery Worth $18K From Deceased Man

City of St. Mary, Missouri

The mayor of St. Mary, Missouri, Adam Bequette, is facing charges for allegedly stealing an $18,000 skid steer from a man who recently passed away. The Missouri State Highway Patrol claims he tampered with the vehicle, which was meant for the deceased man’s two adult children, according to PEOPLE.

The owner of the skid steer, which is used in construction and landscaping, died back in March. When his children visited his property two months later, they discovered it missing. Officials say Mayor Bequette told city workers to take it, saying it blocked access to water lines, but he didn’t get an answer from the man’s family first although reports say he attempted to reach out to them.

Cops found no proof the skid steer was blocking anything or that the family was contacted. It was given back to the man’s family in June.
