The Los Angeles fires began in the early hours of Tuesday, January 7, and have continued to wreck devastation across properties and large acres of land. Meek Mill expressed his condolences to those affected, with many displaced people and properties worth billions of dollars going up in flames. However, his attempt at doing so and sharing his experience in a similar situation did not sit well with many who accused him of making himself a main character in the Loa Angeles fires.
Meek Mill Sympathises With Los Angeles FiresVictims
Prayers to la 🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾 I never knew about fire trauma until my house caught on fire…. I was smelling fire in my sleep jumping up for 3 years… I didnt know that type of trauma existed, so I was just dealing with it as a kid!

When Meek Mill thought about extending his sympathies toward the victims of the Los Angeles fires, he probably had no idea he would anger fans. The rapper tried to empathize with those affected by the fires on X, formerly Twitter, but was rebuked for making it about him.
“Prayers to la,” he wrote, adding prayer emojis. “I never knew about fire trauma until my house caught on fire…. I was smelling fire in my sleep jumping up for 3 years… I didnt know that type of trauma existed, so I was just dealing with it as a kid!”
Meek Mill Dragged for Insensitive Los Angeles FiresCondolence
After Mill’s first post on Wednesday, a fan wrote:
“Bro you could have just said this and go about your day.”
The “this” in question was the fan canceling everything the rapper wrote after his prayer emojis. A second person asked Mill to “read the f***ing room,” while a third person talked about how Mill’s post still made no sense even after he edited it and called him an unflattering name. Another X user commented:
“Way to go Meek. Good work making a tragedy about yourself.”
Meanwhile, someone tried to explain to Meek Mill why his post about the Los Angeles fires was inappropriate.
“I know you’re probably tryna show folks you can relate or something, but this comes off and folks will take it as you making the tragedy about yourself,” the person wrote, adding, “like you’re basically saying “I too have felt pain.'”
It appeared that Mill reasoned with the feedback. He made another post some minutes after the first one, writing:
“Prayers to the family’s experiencing that first hand!”
The Los Angeles Fires Updates
The Los Angeles fires ravaging Palisades and Eaton are the most destructive in Los Angeles County’s history. In addition to Palisades and Eaton, where they have gone across 17,200 acres and 10,600 acres, respectively, and destroyed 1000 buildings each, the fires are burning in Hurst, Lidia, and Sunset. There were fires in Woodley and Olivas, but firefighters managed to contain them. The fire in Palisades has wreaked the most destruction, while the one in Eaton has left five bodies in its wake.
Over 100,000 people have been displaced since the Los Angeles fires started, and Accuweather estimates the damage at around $57 billion. These fires threaten the Hollywood district, with 100 luxury buildings ravaged by the fires, including Paris Hilton’s Malibu home. Meanwhile, the source of the fires is unknown and currently under investigation.
Although many have condemned Meek Mill’s post about the Los Angeles fires, a few others reasoned that the rapper was just trying to show empathy. Hopefully, Mill will learn from all the feedback he has received.
