A Michigan man, Harrison Jones, 21, was arrested for setting fire to a Pennsylvania home, where six people were inside. The fire killed the family’s two dogs, Trey and Jett, but all family members survived, thanks to the mother who alerted them in time. Some had to jump from second-story windows to escape.
Police determined the fire was intentional, with security footage capturing a black sedan arriving at the home around 5 a.m. NY Post reports that the suspect exited, went to the back of the house for over ten minutes, then ran away before the house erupted in flames 30 seconds later. Investigators traced the vehicle back to Harrison Jones and arrested him two days later with burns on his arm.
Jones, from Rockford, Michigan, was the ex-boyfriend of a woman who had been in an online relationship since 2023 with a male resident of the home. Court documents suggest Jones was originally supposed to drive his ex-girlfriend to meet the man but instead traveled alone with “murderous intentions,” driving over 730 miles to commit the act before returning home.
Jones faces six counts of attempted homicide, arson, and related charges and is awaiting extradition to Pennsylvania.
The Zalenski family, identified as Andrew, and Stacy, their children Alex and Ava, and Stacy’s parents, Joe and Karen Wendowski, lost everything. A GoFundMe page was started to support them, highlighting their hardships, including Stacy’s battle with cancer.
The Philadelphia Animal Welfare Society also launched a fundraiser in memory of the dogs, with plans to dedicate a kennel plaque to Trey and Jett. Bucks County District Attorney Jennifer Schorn called the attack “incomprehensible” and vowed to hold Jones accountable.
