In Harrison Township, Michigan, 26-year-old Jermaine Taylor was arrested on June 6 for allegedly attempting to meet a 9-year-old girl for sexual activity, as reported by court records cited by The Detroit News and WDIV-TV.
Now, Taylor faces charges of attempted rape and importuning for soliciting a minor under 13, according to WTVG.
Authorities say he was unknowingly messaging an undercover agent posing as the child, sending explicit content and arranging a meeting in Toledo. On June 9, a court set his bond at $200,000—$100,000 per charge. Taylor was also ordered not to make contact with the victim.
Jermaine Taylor’s preliminary hearing is scheduled for June 17 at 9 a.m. Local outlets, including MLive, note this case highlights ongoing efforts by law enforcement to combat online predation through sting operations.
