In May 2021, Genevieve Brewster stepped out for a nice girls’ time with a friend who rocked a Dior bag to complement her outfit. As her friend swung the designer piece over her shoulder, it accidentally hit the model. This caused a redness and visible bruise, still, the model did not think too much of the injury.

Per The Sun, Brewster visited the hospital where she had the wound cleaned up. At the time, she confessed to seeing “flashes of lights” and “floaters.” But to her, these were not pointers that something was wrong with her eye as she believed it was due to work stress.

However, the situation grew worse and six months later, Brewster was back in the hospital. The affected eye had blanked out and could not pick or spot images. The doctors explained that three-quarters of her retina had detached due to the heavy blow.

That was when she got scheduled for a series of surgeries in a bid to restore her sight, but the opposite happened. Genevieve Brewster’s appearance was noticeably different as she struggled with the aftermath of surgeries. She was also not confident enough to stare into the mirror.

Through the years, she experienced improvement in her appearance. But in September 2024, the model was hit with the worst update—her retina had detached entirely. This meant that Brewster’s affected eye had gone blind.

Although there is nothing that can be done to bring back her eye, the model is lending her voice to awareness. While sharing her ordeal online, the model confessed her regret of delaying a hospital appointment. Brewster urged her followers to learn from her and prioritize their health.
