A 48-year-old man is facing kidnapping charges after police say he stole a car with a child inside, according to WSBTV.
On Monday evening, around 8 p.m., Holly Springs, police were called to a gas station about a car theft. Dispatchers informed them that a child was in the vehicle when it was stolen.
The child’s mother reportedly chased down the vehicle. When the suspect, later identified as Joseph Avram, stopped a short way down the road, the mother pulled him out of the drivers seat of her car. Avram then ran towards a nearby store and motel.
Holly Springs police and Cherokee County deputies began searching for Avram after receiving his photo and description from security footage. They got his driver’s license details and phone number, then tracked his cell phone to a location in Atlanta near a Greyhound bus station.
Atlanta police were alerted and managed to find and arrest Avram. He was taken to the Cherokee County Jail and charged with kidnapping and theft by taking.
