Mother and Daughter Killed and Multiple Hurt After Tornado Hit Tennessee

A mother and daughter lost their lives, and at least three others were hurt when a tornado hit eastern Tennessee on Thursday night, causing severe damage. The EF-2 tornado, with winds reaching 135 mph, struck Deer Lodge in Morgan County at approximately 8:30 p.m, per the New York Post

On Friday morning, the agency confirmed that a mother and daughter who resided together were sadly, killed. The pair have yet to be identified. Three other individuals were injured. The storm also caused huge property damage and left hundreds of residents without power, as reported by WBIR.

A statement by county officials said, “Our thoughts and prayers are with the families and loved ones of those affected by this tragic event…local, county, and state first responders, along with emergency personnel from multiple agencies and jurisdictions, are actively engaged in search and rescue operations and assessing individual safety.” 

Tennessee Governor Bill Lee stated that the Tennessee Emergency Management Agency is assisting victims and evaluating the damage. He plans on visit the affected areas later. Morgan County has also established an emergency operations center.
