A mother from Georgia is not accepting a plea deal after being arrested and charged with child endangerment for allowing her 10-year-old son to walk alone into town. 41-year-old Brittany Patterson from Mineral Bluff, was apprehended on Oct. 30 after her son left home and walked less than a mile into town, per NBC News.
The Fannin County Sheriff’s Department initially contacted the mother to inform her that her son, Soren, was alone in town
The mother said,
“It’s not a super dangerous or even dangerous-at-all stretch of road,”
she went on to say as she referred to the road that directs them from their home to the town, Mineral Bluff. She continued,
“I wasn’t terrified for him or scared for his safety.”
Officials took Soren home and later returned to arrest his mother in front of her loved one. Patterson was charged with reckless conduct and posted a $500 bond. She expressed anger and frustration that her children saw her get arrest and has refused a plea deal, claiming the charges are unfair.
The charges were offered to be dropped by officials under the condition that Patterson signed a form that details a
“safety plan for her”
children, the news outlet reports.
The mother said,
“This is not right. I did nothing wrong,”
she said.
“I’m going to fight for that.”
