On Friday, staff at a Shreveport elementary school reported allegations of abuse, resulting in the arrest of 27-year-old Daisha Davis for cruelty to juveniles. A student revealed she was in pain and had difficulty sitting because her mother, Davis, had struck her with an extension cord, according to KTAL/KMSS.
Detectives from SPD and the Louisiana Department of Children and Family Services responded to the school, noticing welts and bruising on the child’s thigh.
Following the investigation, Davis was apprehended and charged with one count of cruelty to a juvenile. A statement from the Shreveport Police Department said,
“Situations like this are deeply unfortunate. While the Shreveport Police Department respects a parent’s right to discipline their children, it must be done in a reasonable and prudent manner. Using objects that cause injury is not only dangerous but can also constitute a criminal act. Corporal punishment is not forbidden by law, but it must remain reasonable and should not result in harm to the child.”
