A mother was taken into custody after she allegedly threw hot liquid on her teenage son and a 14-year-old girl, per Law & Crime. The incident occurred on Oct 20, following an argument over a phone at a North Carolina apartment complex.
According to the boy’s uncle, Larry McDougald, a brawl broke out over a phone outside of his apartment complex on Ponderosa Drive.
“You can’t hear too much, see too much when you have 40 people around the whole step,”
McDougald said.
“[People were] trying to escalate by throwing stuff through the windows,”
and were fighting, he told NBC affiliate WRAL.
He said when he tried to stop the fight, he saw his nephew
“screaming”
in pain. The victim had burns on his chest. He believes the substance thrown might have been hot water mixed with bleach. An arrest warrant mentioned that the female victim had first- and second-degree burns on her chest. However, the warrant did not specify the liquid Kendra McDougald is accused of throwing.
“This turned into something I have never seen before in my life,”
Larry McDougald told the TV station.
“We need to pass things up and let them go before it escalates any worse. This is my family. I don’t want nobody hurt, period.”
Both victims were taken to the hospital for non-life-threatening injuries. Kendra McDougald faces charges of assault with serious bodily injury, negligent child abuse, and assault with a deadly weapon.
According to the North Carolina Department of Adult Correction, she worked as an officer at the Johnston Correctional Institution in Smithfield but resigned last week after her arrest. She started her job there in May. Police arrested her on October 24 and took her to Harnett County Jail, where she has since posted a $125,000 bond.
