The Chester Crown Court in England ruled against the freedom of a mother who kept her baby in the drawer for three years. The judge sentenced her to seven years and six months on November 26. The Crown Prosecution Service and Cheshire Constabulary reported that the convict’s name will be withheld due to legal reasons.
CPS revealed that the unnamed woman was first tried at a hearing on October 8, where she pleaded guilty. According to authorities, the child was born in 2020. But she was discovered in February 2023.
This happened following a visit from the partner of the mother. He claimed that a sound came from upstairs, a part of the house that was out of bounds. However, on this particular day, he followed the sound only to discover a horrendous sight. The 3-year-old child with a cleft lip and matted hair was staring right back at him. The mother confirmed that she kept the baby away from anyone.
Upon interrogation, the woman told the police that she was in an abusive relationship with the child’s father. But when she became pregnant, she hid it from him. CPS claimed that the child could barely function. She had “floppy limb,” and “swollen feet.”
Amid being 3, the child could not crawl, walk, or talk. She only managed to make soothing sounds repetitively. Throughout her stay in the drawer, the baby was fed through a syringe, thus the feeding style impeded her growth. As for now, the child is still receiving treatment. Meanwhile, she has undergone two surgeries to correct her cleft lips.
