Authorities in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) have reported the deaths of 143 individuals in a southwest province during November 2024 due to an unidentified disease, per Reuters.

Health officials are currently investigating the outbreak, which has raised concerns in a region already grappling with recurrent public health challenges.

The disease has caused a sudden surge in deaths, particularly in rural areas, where healthcare infrastructure is limited, according to the outlet.

The symptoms and cause of the outbreak remain under investigation, according to local authorities who spoke to Reuters.

However, health experts and international agencies have begun analyzing the potential for links to previously reported outbreaks, such as cholera or the ongoing resurgence of mpox, a viral disease previously known as monkeypox in the region.

#Clique, I hope this unknown disease doesn’t make its way to the U.S.! Buckle up and cover up!
