A few weeks after Cordae dispelled breakup rumors between himself and Naomi Osaka, the tennis champion confirmed the rumors were true. She announced their split online but did not elaborate or share their reasons for breaking up. The athlete and her boyfriend have been together for five years and share a daughter named Shai. Meanwhile, Naomi Osaka and Cordae’s breakup happened just before the Australian Open 2025.
Naomi Osaka Confirms Cordae Breakup
Naomi Osaka and rapper Cordae have been together since 2019. However, the Japanese Tennis star announced that the five-year relationship was over on Monday, January 6, 25. She posted the shocking news on her Instagram Stories, saying:
“Hi everyone, just wanted to say that Cordae and I are no longer in a relationship.”
She also ensured that her followers were informed that the breakup was amicable.
“No bad blood at all, he’s a great person and an awesome dad. Honestly really glad our paths crossed because my daughter is my biggest blessing and I was able to grow a lot from our experiences together.”
Since Naomi Osaka announced her and Cordae’s breakup, the couple’s fans have been stunned despite the buzz about a possible split.
Naomi Osaka and Cordae Attended Event Before Breakup
Perhaps fans were more blindsided by the shocking announcement because all seemed well between the couple during their last outing together. Before their breakup, Naomi Osaka and Cordae attended Jamie Foxx’s birthday party at Mr. Chows in Beverly Hills, California, on December 10. This event is where a glass infamously hit Foxx. Osaka and Cordae were some of the guests the actor invited to celebrate his 57th birthday.
The couple attended the event in style. Osaka wore a red minidress and a jacket, while Cordae wore a black short-sleeved button shirt. He paired it with a black inner T-shirt and white and black baggie joggers.
Cordae Denied Breakup Rumors Between Him and Noami Osaka
Cordae also appeared on the Breakfast Club show on December 18, 2024, where he told JessHilarious that all was good with him and Osaka. “We’re triple good,” he said. When his host mentioned that fans were speculating about a breakup because the couple no longer posted pictures of each other, Cordae chalked it all up to his love for privacy.
“Honestly, I am a super private person,” he said.
“I try my best as much as I can be. When it comes to my personal life, I can be super private… because some stuffs you got to keep for yourselves and when you allow like outside opinion, and outside opinions can be family members and that can get in the way of stuff that’s important to you,” he continued. “When you add the world to that, that’s a whole nother thing,” Cordae remarked.
He added that he tried to always be private about his relationship, daughter, and life.

True to Cordae’s words, he and Naomi Osaka had a very private relationship. They confirmed their romance in June 2019, long after they started dating and a few months after rumors of their relationship went around online. The rapper confirmed their relationship during an interview with HOT 97. “That’s my girl,” he said, when his host asked about her. The couple welcomed their daughter in Los Angeles on July 11, 2023.
Naomi Osaka and Cordae’s breakup news still shocks many who thought the couple would stay together forever. Thankfully, everything seems to have happened amicably, and the pair is looking forward to co-parenting as friends.
