On May 21, the Brazil Police Department responded to Hailynn Volpatti’s call after her 21-month-old daughter, Nova Lei Bryant’s, tragic death. The 25-year-old suspect called emergency services after seeing her daughter float in bathwater. According to her statement, the toddler was found facing the ceiling in a filled bathtub, with only a small part of her nose above water level.

Nova Lei Bryant’s Mother Lied To The Police About Her Death

While recounting to the police, Volpatti claimed the toddler was in the bathtub with her twin sons. The twins aged 4 are Volpatti’s biological kids, while the toddler is her adopted child. Per People, the foster mom maintained that she was only out for a few minutes to get a drink in another room. But forty-eight hours after the first statement, the story changed.

The first responders performed CPR and luckily they got a faint pulse. The little princess was immediately rushed to the hospital. Sadly, she wasn’t lucky enough to survive. According to Carri L. Nauman, the child’s grandmother, Bryant died in June. Nauman set up a GoFundMe account for the deceased whom she added as “precious little angel.”

The police asked to meet with a friend of the foster mom. This prompted her to tell the truth—apparently, Volpatti was on a 30-minute-long call with a friend. It was during this time that Bryant drowned in the bathtub.

WRTV interviewed Bryant’s birth mom Celena Conkright who was grieving her child. Conkright emphasized that the Department of Child Services said she was unfit to parent her child. This was because she suffered from ADHD. Although the DCS failed to comment, a spokesperson said that Volpatti’s foster license will be revoked.
