After a lengthy legal battle with Nipsey Hussle’s family, his ex-girlfriend, Tanisha Foster, has gained custody of their daughter Emani. The new agreement saw Hussle’s sister and mother relinquishing their guardianship over 16-year-old Emani. Meanwhile, Foster tried to gain full custody of her daughter, but the court struck out her petition. The legal battle occurred years after Foster had agreed to let her ex’s family have custody of her young daughter.
Tanisha Foster Wins Custody of Daughter Emani
Tanisha Foster won a major battle last week when she gained primary custody of her daughter Emani. Foster and late rapper Nipsey Hussle’s family struck the deal that ended the multiple-year custody battle, which began in 2022. Hussle’s ex won 60 percent physical and legal custody of Emani in the March 5 agreement. Meanwhile, Tanisha Foster must co-parent her daughter Emani with her ex’s brother, Sam Ashgedom.
Consequently, Hussle’s sister, Samantha Ashgedom, and his mother, Angelique Smith, have given up being co-guardians. The family became Emani’s legal guardians after the rapper’s death in March 2019. Sam and Foster will now share equal rights in deciding Emani’s best interests. According to the agreement, Emani will remain at her school and continue with all current “academic and extracurricular activities” under her guardians’ care. She will reside with her mother and uncle at their current residences.
Nipsey Hussle’s Family Was Concerned About Foster’s Parenting Abilities
Foster won a major breakthrough with the new agreement she, Hussle’s sister, mother, and brother signed. Following the rapper’s death in 2019, his family had petitioned the court for full custody of his daughter. His sister, Samantha, led the effort to secure the guardianship of her brother’s daughter. She initiated the proceedings, citing a lack of trust in Tanisha Foster’s capabilities to raise her daughter, Emani. Samantha also claimed that being devoted to Emani’s well-being was one of her reasons for the legal action.
Additionally, she cited her desire to see her brother’s child stay connected to the family. Although Tanisha Foster opposed the move to take her daughter, Emani, Nipsey Hussle’s family won the battle. The judge ruled that Hussle’s family should become Emani’s legal guardians in October 2019 to provide her with a stable and supportive environment.
Foster Initially Agreed To Give Up Custody Of Daughter Emani
Meanwhile, Tanisha Foster revealed why she initially agreed to give Hussle’s family guardianship of her daughter, Emani. She explained that she did it because of her financial situation and to maintain Emani’s standard of living. Foster claimed she filed to terminate the guardianship after Hussle’s family prevented her from having a relationship with her daughter. She alleged that the rapper’s family broke their promises and used their wealth to limit her visitation rights. She also claimed they limited financial support for her.
Tanisha Foster said she filed to reclaim full custody of her daughter Emani after seeing a video of the teen. In the clip, Emani said she was locked out of the house on a hot day because of a cleaning. Foster also said Emani always asked when they could live together. She told the court she was able to parent her daughter now.
“There are no circumstances or events in my life that would disqualify me for regaining my exclusive role as Emani’s parent. There is no longer any need for guardianship,” she told the court, according to In Touch.
Meanwhile, Tanisha Foster had also sought to gain full control of her daughter Emani’s custody. She asked the court to dismiss Hussle’s brother as a guardian, but the judge dismissed the petition, citing insufficient evidence.
It’s a good time for Tanisha Foster, who has now won physical and legal custody of her daughter Emani. Hopefully, Foster and her daughter will live well and make many fun memories for as long as possible.
