In a highly controversial decision, a #Mississippi judge dismissed the case against a white father and son accused of shooting at a Black FedEx delivery driver in 2022, marking the third time the pursuit of justice has failed for the victim, D’Monterrio Gibson.

On January 24, 2022, Gibson, who was 24 years old at the time of the incident, was delivering packages in Brookhaven, Mississippi, when Gregory Case and his son Brandon Case allegedly chased and fired shots at him, WLBT reports.

The two men reportedly believed Gibson’s presence in the predominantly white neighborhood was suspicious.

Gibson was wearing his FedEx uniform and driving a marked rental truck while delivering packages. Gregory Case allegedly used his pickup truck to block the road. Brandon Case is accused of standing in the road with a gun, firing multiple shots at Gibson’s vehicle as he fled.

According to Gibson, he reported the incident to the Brookhaven Police Department that night, but officers seemed dismissive of his account. “They treated me like I was the suspect, not the victim,” Gibson said in an interview following the dismissal.

The latest dismissal has sparked outrage among civil rights groups, with critics calling it a glaring example of racial injustice. “This decision is not just a miscarriage of justice; it’s a blatant disregard for accountability,” said Derrick Johnson, president of the NAACP. “D’Monterrio Gibson deserves better, and so does the promise of equality under the law.”
