Death is inevitable, but that doesn’t make its occurrence any less shocking or painful. Several notable stars died in 2024, some at an old age while others were considerably young. Regardless of their ages, these stars somehow impacted the world and will be sorely missed. Here are some of the notable celebrities who passed on this year.

1. James Earl Jones

2024 saw us losing many notable celebrities, including James Earl Jones. The prestigious actor known for his roles in movies like Field of Dreams, Coming To America, Conan the Barbarian, Star Wars, and The Lion King died at 93. Jones’ family surrounded him as he passed away on Monday, Sept. 9, 2024.  The cause of his death was not released. Jones was one of the most remarkable actors of his time. He was particularly notable for his deep, baritone, and gravelly voice.

2. Clark Kent

Hip-hop record producer DJ Clark Kent passed on in 2024 as well. The talented producer, who worked with several big-name artists like Mariah Carey and Jay-Z, died on Oct. 25, 2024, after a three-year battle with colon cancer. Kent was 58 when he died. He is survived by his wife, Kesha, and two children, Kabriah and Antonio, who were with him at the time of his passing. After Kent’s death, his family thanked everyone for their love and support and asked for privacy and prayers.

3. Fatman Scoop

Rapper and hip-hop star Fatman Scoop is one of the stars we said goodbye to in 2024. The musician collapsed on stage while doing a show in Connecticut in August. He was taken to the hospital, where he passed away. Doctors confirmed that the hip-hop artist died of a health disease, and he suffered from hypertension and atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease. Scoop gained fame in 2003 with his 2003 song, Be Faithful. He collaborated with top artists like David Guetta during his lifetime.

4. Quincy Jones

Quincy Jones, the widely acclaimed composer and record producer, died early this month on Sunday, Nov. 3, 2024. According to his publicist Arnold Robinson, he was 91 and surrounded by his children, siblings, and family members as he died in his Bel Air, California home.

Jones died of pancreatic cancer, which he had been living with for years. He was an accomplished musician who worked with Frank Sinatra, Ray Charles, and Michael Jackson. He is especially renowned for producing Michael Jackson’s Thriller album.

5. O.J. Simpson

Former professional football player O.J. Simpson is another of the celebrities who died in 2024. He passed on at 76 on April 10 from complications due to metastatic prostate cancer.

“On April 10, our father, Orenthal James Simpson, succumbed to his battle with cancer. He was surrounded by his children and grandchildren. During this time of transition, his family asks that you please respect their wishes for privacy and grace. The Simpson Family,” his family posted on X, formerly Twitter, following his demise.

Simpson was popular for his skills on the field but even more famous for his 1994 trial. The former athlete was charged with and acquitted of murdering his ex-wife Nicole Brown and her friend Ron Goldman outside Brown’s home in Los Angeles.

6. Mr. Cee

Mister Cee, born Calvin LeBrun, died on April 10, 2024, at 57. His family released an official statement after his death, revealing the cause to be “diabetes-related coronary artery/kidney disease.” Before he died, Mr Cee was a DJ, record executive, radio personality, and broadcaster. He is also widely regarded as one of the pioneers of hip-hop. He was influential in bringing several rising artists to the limelight and notably discovered The Notorious B.I.G.

7. Rich Homie Quan

Rich Homie Quan, born Dequantes Devontay Lamar, tragically passed on on Sept. 5, 2024, at the age of 34. According to the Fulton County Medical Examiner’s Office, the rapper died of an accidental drug overdose. An autopsy revealed the presence of several drugs in his system, including fentanyl, alprazolam, codeine, promethazine, and THC. Meanwhile, there was no sign of trauma, so officials ruled his death an accident. The rapper shot into the limelight with his breakout track, Type of Way.

8. Liam Payne

One Direction band member Liam Payne also joined the list of notable celebrities who died in 2024. The singer passed away at the age of 31 on Oct. 16, 2024, after falling from a third-floor hotel balcony at the CasaSur Palermo Hotel, Buenos Aires, Argentina. Payne’s fall resulted in “multiple trauma” and internal and external bleeding, which led to his death. Three people, including a drug supplier, were charged with his death, which was ruled a suicide.
