According to a search warrant obtained by NBC 5 Dallas-Fort Worth, the DFW Airport management experienced a major loss in car theft between 2023 and November 2024. The Airport management maintained that the incident was prevalent between 2024 to November 2024. In this period alone, over 200 cars disappeared from the terminal. In 2023, the authorities recorded 142 car thefts.
About 60 cars were never found in the year that followed. Although the DFW commended the reduction in car theft from their terminal, it did not halt police investigation. Throughout 2023 and 2024, the police were hands-on which eventually led to the arrest of a few people. The police have 14 suspects in custody already.
These alleged criminals have been involved in the theft of 52 cars worth $4.9 million and they target four major airports. This includes airports in Texas, Utah, Nevada, and New Mexico. Amid bringing a resolution, the police maintain that car theft is fast becoming a cause for concern nationwide. They revealed that most vehicles stolen from terminals are “high-end muscle cars and luxury SUVs.”
While the DFW rep agreed that luxury vehicles are easy targets, the person tried to rack up confidence for the airport. Citing the car thefts in DFW, the spokesperson told NBC that the number of missing vehicles is significantly reduced compared to the nearly 4 million cars parked yearly.
