Tragically, a passenger died after intentionally jumping overboard from the world’s largest cruise ship, the Icon of the Seas. The incident occurred shortly after the ship departed from a Florida port for a seven-day Caribbean cruise. The Coast Guard assisted in locating the man, per the New York Post

According to reports, the incident took place in the morning when the Icon of the Seas, the world’s largest cruise ship, was about 300 miles from PortMiami and

“30 to 40 miles north of Santa Lucia, Cuba.”

The Royal Caribbean crew promptly informed the US Coast Guard and initiated a search and rescue mission.

The cruise company said,

“Our care team is actively providing support and assistance to the guest’s loved ones during this difficult time.”

“For the privacy of the guest and their family, we have no additional details to share,”

the company continued.

The ship, which accommodates more than 5,000 guests and recently started its first journey back in January, began the cruise on Saturday. However, following the incident on Sunday, the cruise paused for about two hours as the search operation went on.
