Dank Demoss, real name Dajua Blanding, is suing ride-hailing company Lyft after one of its drivers refused to take her as a passenger. The driver cited space constraints and the damage to his vehicle’s tires if he carried the 220-kg woman. Demoss considered his attitude discriminatory and retaliated with a lawsuit against the company. She also shared a video of her interaction with the driver, which has received severe backlash.

Dank Demoss And Lyft Driver’s Altercation

Dank Demoss and Lyft are set to meet in court after one of the ride-hailing company’s drivers refused to carry Demoss in his car. The driver, only known as Abraham, told the rapper his vehicle’s tires couldn’t accommodate her due to her size and asked that she request a bigger car. However, Demoss refused and insisted on entering the man’s car. She posted a video last week that captured their altercation.

“I’m sorry. I got no space at all. My car is small,” the driver told her, as she repeatedly insisted otherwise.

“I can fit in this car,” she told the driver, who replied, “Believe me, you can’t.”

When the Detroit rapper asked what would happen to the money she already paid, the driver told her he would cancel her booking so she could be refunded. He apologized several times but remained firm on his decision, while Demoss kept insisting she could fit in his car. Eventually, the driver advised her to book an Uber XL, but the rapper said she had never had to order one and refused to do so while recording their interaction.

Dan Demoss Claims Weight Has Never Stopped Her

After her encounter with the Lyft driver, Dank Demoss posted footage of the altercation on TikTok and went on air with Fox News. During her interview, she told the station she felt slighted when the driver said his tires couldn’t bear her weight. The musician and activist weighs about 220kg or 489 pounds. However, she claimed to have been in cars smaller than the Lyft cab, and her weight never prevented her. In the clip about her altercation, Demoss also mentioned that her friend had a Benz she usually rode in.

Meanwhile, Lyft has fired the driver involved in the Dank Demoss case and apologized to her. However, netizens have piled on the rapper for getting the driver fired since the news went viral. Many said the driver did the right thing since carrying Demoss would have destroyed the car’s suspension and other parts. Additionally, Lyft isn’t responsible for repairing car damages incurred while on duty. However, a few think the driver could have been more tactful when refusing to accept Demoss as his passenger.

Dank Demoss has filed a lawsuit against Lyft, and she is asking for millions in compensation. She told Fox News that her lawyers said she had a case on the grounds of weight discrimination, protected under Michigan law; the law prohibits discrimination based on physical characteristics. Dank Demoss also views her experience as a way to draw attention to the plight of plus-sized people and wants to use her lawsuit against Lyft to advocate for change.

She believes that her multi-million dollar lawsuit will highlight how discrimination affects access to equitable transportation, which will promote inclusivity and reforms in the ride-hailing industry.

Dank Demoss’ lawsuit against Lyft and its result in the driver’s termination has left a sour taste in netizens. However, the rapper may still be able to achieve change with her actions, whether she wins the lawsuit or not.
